Commander is a popular gameplay variant where you set aside a legendary creature to act as your deck’s “commander”, and are able to play that card without needing to draw it from a shuffled deck. Commanders are rarely put into decks or hands and are usually visible to all players at all times, which makes it easy to have a proxy stand in as one. Legendary cards can also be used in regular, non-commander ways.
